A practice built on presence

I'm Audra Rafferty, a licensed marriage and family therapist who works with teens, young adults and the families around them.

My approach is relational and practical. I draw on family systems and cognitive behavioral ideas, and I pay attention to the body as well as the words. I believe a young person does their best work in a room where nobody is in a hurry, and where they know the rules of privacy before they say anything.

Before opening a private practice I worked in a community clinic with teens and families. That taught me that leaving home is rarely one decision; it is a long run of small ones, and people do better when they get to make them at their own speed.

MY PHILOSOPHY

What guides the work

What shapes every session, and every conversation with a family.

  1. 01

    Step 1: Trust comes first

Nothing else works without it, so I take the time to earn it. I explain how I work, what stays private and what does not, before we begin.

  2. 02

    Step 2: The body knows

Feelings show up in the body before they reach words. I pay attention to that, and we use it to slow things down when a session gets heavy.

  3. 03

    Step 3: Curiosity over judgment

Every pattern you have made sense at some point. We start by understanding it, and only then talk about changing it.

  4. 04

Step 4: You set the pace

I offer invitations, not prescriptions. You are the expert on your own life, and a session can stop or slow down whenever you say.
